A week of simple nails

Ah, the joys of being sick and moving. No time and no interest in doing proper nail art! Luckily I’ve more than enough polishes that are screaming to be tried, so this week’s all about random colours I love on their own.

Left is Nicole by OPI ‘Luke of the Draw’ from the Modern Family series. I used 3 coats of it, and I just loved the final look and how it lasted over 5 days! Awesomesauce.

To the right, what I’m wearing today is Sinful Colors ‘Dancing Nails’. I haven’t been using SC for long, but so far I’ve been quite satisfied with their colours and how good it goes on. This metallic rose is no exception, it looks great and is definitely good enough to wear on its own. So if you got 2 dollars to spare, then you’ve no excuse for not making your nails pretty!

I’ll be busy for at least another week, so my next posts will feature more of my fave single colours!

Today’s nails: a glittery sunset

20130714-194915.jpg

Today I finally found some inspiration again – this week, in case you were wondering, I was so busy with other things that I got my first nail art black out…the ideas weren’t coming at all! But luckily the slowly but surely improving summer here in Holland gave me a design to work out at long last.

I wanted a bit of a funky sunset to sponge on, and for that I chose 3 polishes: Sinful Colors ’24/7′, my go-to neon pink of the moment, ‘Crystal Clear’, some playful glitters, and Catrice ‘Ernie and Birdy’, a light yellow with a slight shimmer.

First I did just 1 coat of the yellow, but made sure it did cover fairly well. Then, I took a triangular make up sponge, cut it in half (so I can use the other half for a future design), grabbed some aluminum foil and a nail stick.
I added a blob of pink and a little yellow on the foil in such a way that it just touched. Then I pressed the sponge on it, and dabbed it carefully over each nail , moving left/right and slightly up/down until I got my desired ombre look.

After finishing each nail, I took the nail stick to quickly remove some of the excess polish directly around my cuticles and after that added one coat of the glitter. I cleaned up the rest of the mess after adding my quick drying top coat. Sponging is just so messy! But I do quite enjoy it. Summer’s now on my nails 🙂

Pinkpop, pink nails, good weekend!

Last weekend we went to one of Holland’s largest and longest running rock festivals, Pinkpop. I’ve been to loads of them as I do enjoy to ***rock out*** quite a bit (doing some silly moves while typing).

I’d done my nails a few days before already, however I was blissfully unaware of the fact that I basically had my festival nails on a few days too soon!

Yes indeed, it’s such a shocking pink that it’s nearly a sin. Or a total one, as this is Sinful Colors ’24/7′. Nice easy 2 coats – it goes on matte so I painted on some Seche Vite speedy shiny top coat. I love neon colours when I’m a little tanned like now, it makes them pop even brighter! So if you’ve got a little colour on your skin, I can totally recommend this to you.

As for the festival, it was a lot of fun as always! Green Day were a bit of a let down, but Google the Belgian band Triggerfinger if you’re into loud guitars played by guys in suits. Loved it!

Today’s nails: kobalt blue and stars

20130528-192358.jpg
(photo note: my cuticles were kind of ruined last week at a nail salon…) Today, before I read the comments of my previous entry, I decided to try 2 of my new polishes from the USA: Sinful Colors’ SinfulShine ‘Endless Blue’ and Fergie by Wet n Wild ‘Hollywood Walk of Fame’.

The (very pretty) kobalt blue is so pigmented that I only needed 1 coat. Love it!

The glitters were slightly harder: this is one of those glitters you expect to pop, but in actual fact you need to be lucky to find 2 stars on your brush, rest being regular top coat. The stars and glitter are really pretty though, so I took an orange/cuticle stick, dipped the brush in the bottle a few times, removed any stars with the stick and set them aside. After putting 1 coat of the glitter on each nail, I simply added the kept away stars to any nail that had too little.

There you go! Next up, trying out the fuzzy polish..
